3 Fun Ways to Help Kids Learn Bible Verses as the New School Year Begins

Building the spiritual capacity of children is so critical in these times. One of the ways to do this is by getting God’s word into their hearts. God’s word acts as a compass for guiding their decision making process, their response in the face of anxious thoughts or in the face of peer pressure or even bullies.

As a personal principle, I set spiritual goals for my family particularly at the beginning of every season just like teachers in school also set academic goals..

Now that we are in full “Back to school” mood, it’s important to use fun and creative ways to get God’s word in. As you know children thrive on fun, exciting, colourful things! So we thought to share with you 4 Fun ways you can get God’s word into the heart of your children

LUNCH BOX NOTES!

Lunch Box Notes can be a beautiful way to drive home the scripture you are teaching your child in this season. Imagine them in school as they open their Lunch Box and they find a special Note from Mom along with a scripture you have written. Don’t you think it would be something they’ll love? I’m sure they’ll love it and Guess what? Their friends will start talking about it and then other Parents will pick up too! The Ministry is moving! Even the toddlers can benefit. Simply ask their teacher to help you read it to them during lunch hour.

COLOURING BIBLE VERSES

Painting and colouring brings out the creative abilities of children. It is  Guaranteed to keep them busy. It also helps to squeeze out their creative juices, improve concentration, focus levels and depending on the age it can also help with fine motor and gross motor skills! While all of that is happening, they get to learn and nourish their spirit as they colour Bible Verses!  If your child is at an age where they can read, ask them to read as the colour or sound the alphabets as they colour.

PUZZLES, WORD SEARCH, FILL IN THE MISSING WORDS

This certainly boosts critical thinking and nurtures patience + ability to read between the lines. It’s a win-win because they will also be learning God’s word as they build other skills needed to thrive in school and in life!

So on your way to school while in the car they do the guess game, work on the word search etc

MUSIC! MUSIC ! MUSIC!

Music is such a powerful tool for teaching God’s word to kids. Music makes learning more fun, which makes us want to learn more. Music increases dopamine levels in the brain’s reward center, stimulating a desire to learn more. This reward cycle can increase memory performance for nonmusical information that is associated with the music.

Take this particular song for instance – Father you are Kind of Heaven by Awesome Cutlery a Christian Music Group focused on creating fun tunes for kids.

Here’s a part of the lyrics -;

It’s like an earthworm trying to press-ups

Like a potato trying to swim

Like a mountain trying to brush its teeth

When we don’t rely on him.

When we pray we trust our Father,

That’s what Jesus said

So I’ll stop trusting in myself and pray to God instead

Imagine your child singing things every day. It will help them rely and learn to depend on God. You can also combine with with a scripture like Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

The result will be absolutely outstanding!
