3 Songs Every Mom Should listen to in Challenging Times

How i started the day beaming with smiles. Thinking I was going to get some work done

We are in very challenging times – a pandemic in its 3rd year, economic challenges, rumours of wars and the effect can be felt by all BUT moms are the worst hit. All around the world, moms are struggling to stay above the water of combining work, business, a side hustle and motherhood. Our plans are constantly being disrupted. I have had my fair share of this myself. Recently, I got a call in the middle of my well planned day to pick up my son from school. It was also shocking to me that an 18 months old (1 year, 6months ) child has to do a rapid Covid test before he can return to school due to no fault of his or his parents! It’s important to keep our faith up because it is clear the devil wants it down but we will prevail!

On my way to pick up my son after I got a call in the middle of my well laid plans

One of the ways I keep my faith up, is listening to songs. In recent times, they have a way of calming me and reminding me that in the midst of the chaos, God is still very much in control.

Here are the top 3 Songs that have been a blessing to me and I hope it blesses you too. I’m sharing particularly because of the lyrics. They are so deep and soul soothing

  • The first is Firm Foundation by Maverick City Choir – It’s such a powerful song. Taking Inspiration from the story told by Jesus about those who build their lives on the rock, and sand gives the song depth. In a world with so much disruption and fluidity, God remains a constant and we must build our lives on something or someone that doesn’t fail. Someone that will keep you steady on days when your well laid plans go out of the window because of unexpected situations like getting a call to come pick your kids and you don’t have any plan B. Some of the lyrics that have ministered to me are – I’ve still got joy in chaos, I’ve got peace that makes no sense. So, I won’t be going under. I’m not held by my own strength. ‘Cause I’ve built my life on Jesus. He’s never let me down. He’s faithful in every season. So why would He fail now. • Same God by Elevation Worship – This is another spirit filled song that helps you get vulnerable with God. If you are like me, there is no day that I don’t cry out to God for help. There is so much to do in so little time and wearing so many hats at the same time. It can be a lot! But listening to a song with the following lyrics can really help – O God, my God, I need You. O God, my God, I need You now. How I need You now. O Rock, O Rock of Ages. I’m standing on Your faithfulness. On Your faithfulness. I particularly like the line that talked about the God of Mary because there is truly a God of Mary! The one who shows favour on people Hallelujah! – I’m calling on the God of Mary. Whose favor rests upon the lowly. I know with You all things are possible. I’m calling on the God of David. Who made a shepherd boy courageous. I may not face Goliath but I’ve got my own giants! Oh God I need you… Please do not hesitate to cry out to God and let him know you need on your parenting journey. In our weakness God remain strong. • Amen and Amen by Sinmidele & Ore Macaulay in TY Bello’s Album – This is a song by the multitalented multifaceted TY Bello who has been able to work across different generations. She has an album for everyone – Young, Old, somewhere in between or the new folks on the block – GenZ! The line that hit me here has to do with breaking generational curses or barriers – You sent forth your word, And it’s come to pass, What our fathers and mothers. Could only foretaste,Is now in our lifetime, the author of days… This is particularly deep for me as a young woman asking the lord to start new things in my lineage. It is also special and prophetic to me as a Nigerian. I believe God that even though our land is filled with evil and uncaring leaders right now, we will be of them that will see the good and eat the good of the Land. As you listen, stay on this line and battle with the song in prayers. Tell God to break every yokes and being to manifestation his word so that the prophesies that our parents didn’t see, we will begin to see them. Some scriptures to use when praying with this song are – Isaiah 49:18 – See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, Isaiah 49:24-25  Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children. Romans 8:33 – Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.

Please find time to listen and I hope it blesses you.

With Love, Morolake
