Christ-Centered Valentine for Kids

February has been labelled a month of Love, primarily because of Valentine’s Day. For us as Christians, everyday is a day for us to experience and express True Love because our God is Love! The world has however commercialised this season so much that our children might get the wrong idea about what true love means. If you are a Christian mama and you still want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your kids then the best way is to use it as an opportunity to point your kids to true love and that is God!

Here are a few tips to help

  • Discuss the real meaning of Love with your kids. True Love for us as God’s children can be found in 1st Corinthians 13 – “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not become angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices over the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always continues strong. Love never ends. There are gifts of prophecy, but they will be ended. There are gifts of speaking in different languages, but those gifts will end. There is the gift of knowledge, but it will be ended. But when perfection comes, the things that are not complete will end.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:4-8, 10‬ ‭ICB‬‬https://bible.com/bible/1359/1co.13.4-1.ICB
  • Get them involved in Acts of Love – Giving, Serving, Sharing – remind them that by doing this they are imitating their father in heaven. God loved us so much – HE GAVE! Based on this they can wrap up gifts to give those in need or give their time by volunteering at a community project or to help an elderly person do basic things.
  • Read out and discuss Bible Characters who were loving and kind E.g – The Good Samaritan, The widow of Zarephath. You can take it a step further and discuss people around the world who were kind E.g – Mother Teresa or even use people in your community . If you have sibling squabbles , you can encourage them to think of ways they can show love or be more kind to their siblings instead of constant squabbles.
  • Get them a Gift too! Let them know that you really really and truly truly love them! Make it special. A personalised shirt or pillow, a secret card in their Bags, an I love you journal etc. For Toddlers, you can sing the I love you song or Jesus loves me this I know. Look into their eyes, hug them and say it to them. Never believe the lie that children can’t hear or they aren’t listening. They are!

Have a Christ Centered Valentine!

With Love, Morolake
