I became a brand new person after becoming a mom. Even my walk with God took a different turn. I yearned for a deeper communion with God in a “Motherly kind of way“. Every time I opened my Bible, my ears, eyes and spiritual senses were open looking for how God will talk to me about how changing Diapers  was part of his grand scheme of things or running after an energetic toddler was part of his plan for me. I was looking for how the word applied to me as I struggled with waking up every 2 hours to breast feed. I was looking for God in my odd places

I searched for God with a deeper and fresh revelation of the reality of who he is for Birthing an entire human is like laying down one’s life for another to come forth. It radically changed me. Infact, I’m still very much on that journey…

Looking for God in odd places like the play ground

At first, I had all the roller coaster emotions. Why does birthing have to be that painful? I thought the curse had been broken? (It has actually). I was upset, angry and everything you can imagine all at once but still thankful, humbled and genuinely grateful that I have this tiny human in my hands.

Gradually God began to give me answers… His love hasn’t changed and even if it was tough, he made me see his hands even in the pain. The little things that saved the day … and the fact that I could eventually carry my son home… Gratitude began to well up on the inside of me… I began to sing like a bird and I haven’t stopped and will not stop singing… because he is still God even in odd, broken & painful places. Gradually I warmed up to speaking to Abba.

Since I had just been “born again” again (lol) along with my new child, I needed a Devotional to guide me through my new journey. I searched and searched.

Not that I didn’t find. I did find but they were not speaking to me as a woman, a Mom, a brand new person… I mean on a woman to woman level, mother to mother level, using examples that I can easily connect with.

Eventually I found this by @sallyClarkson – Mom Heart Moments – Daily Devotions for Life giving Motherhood.

You can get your copy from @inlushmeadowkids in Nigeria or get it here if you’re abroad

I’m glad I found it. My experience with it so far has been really good. I like its simplicity, concise, straight to the point style because if you’re a mom like me reading this, you did understand that getting time to be alone with God is real gold so for me, this is just right. There are short questions and action prompts at the end + a Bible verse at the very beginning to drive home the different themes Sally raised.

With this, my heart is ready to feast with Abba, I have let go of all the questions I don’t have answers to and I accept that all that he does is good. I may not sometimes see his hands, but I know his heart, is good. Always looking out for me. This Devotional helps me connect in a fresh way.

Now that school is back in session, I enjoy spending time with Abba. If you’re looking for Devotional specifically for Moms, you may want to check this out.
