Lessons from Back to Work Conversation Organized by Blazers & Baby - Part 1

Meet Nkechi & Osehmeh – Two Women who took Career Breaks and are now Back to Work

My head is bloody but unbowed

Last weekend was a truly impactful one. Sitting with two amazing women @Belinda Nkechi Idinmachi and @osemhen Okenyi as they shared their Back to Work stories after taking a career break.

Nkechi returned to work after 6 years. In those six years, she kept developing herself, attending courses, running multiple businesses that employed people and more. There where challenges but she pushed through and refused to become an object of pity. When the entrepreneurial landscape was getting extremely challenging due to the current economic challenges in Nigeria, she didn’t hesitate to Pivot. She rejected the fixed mindset, re-strategized, dusted her CV and courageously moved into the Job market. She told everyone who cares to listen she is Job hunting and eventually she got a Job after focusing on her child for 6 Years!

Now she is the VP – Growth at shecluded – A Fintech Company that provides growth Loans, Business Support, Asset Building tools and Financial Inclusion Education for African Women. Her experience running a Business, her

@Osemhen Okenyi brought in another interesting angle to the conversation she pushed back on the false narrative that says “once you have kids you can’t go back to school to study”. She not only broke that glass ceiling, she smashed it and bagged her MBA  from one of the UK’s prestigious universities – Oxford. Now she is able to “optimise for time” as she puts it,  taking on a new Job that is flexible enough for her to move to a new environment, spend more time with her kids family and friends. Going back to school after 2kids + paid off!  She took that career break and she staged a comeback on a whole new level!

The goal of the Blazers and Baby Back to Work Conversation session was simply to help women see that if that’s what they want to do,- IT IS POSSIBLE!
