A Book Review of Brooke McGlothin’s Book
Morolake O.

Praying for Boys – Asking God for things they need Most is a Huge Blessing! As a Boy mom with a couple of other Boy Moms around me, I can only recommend! It is specifically for parents with Boys (but off course it can be used for girls too). You will agree that parenting boys requires a different level of grace and energy. This book equips and teaches you how to pray for things they really need and also acknowledges their uniqueness. Energy raised to 1,000xxxxx! Boy moms will get what I mean. #ifyouknowyouknow!lool
The beautiful part of this book is that the author drew out prayer points for each of the topics she addressed! At the end of every chapter, there is a list of prayers backed up with a Scripture!!!! This is very much in line with my theme for the year – Praying Scripture – Praying God’s word back to him. Some of the topics covered include – Overcoming Fear, Heart Change, Honour, Purity , Wisdom, the fruits of the spirit and more!

The chapter on Forgiveness is one that would stay with me for a long time to come. Here’s what Brooke says about Forgiveness for Boys:
“… from the very beginning I’ve tried to teach my boys the difference between saying “I am sorry” and “Please forgive me”. The simple but profound difference lies in the person’s intent”. In our home, we say we’re sorry if the result of our behaviour was an accident….the need for forgiveness occurs when a child (or an adult, for that matter) has deliberately sinned against another”.
As usual Brooke Mcglothlin was real and very down to earth. This is her second book i’m reading and one thing i have noticed is that she writes from her heart with so much authenticity. More like she is having a heart-to-heart conversation or chit-chat with her inner circle friends as against teaching from a superior place.
She shared many practical examples and stories from her life as a Mom of energetic boys. One of the stories that stood out to me was how the fruit of kindness started growing so beautifully in her son. As a family, Brooke shared that they pray for different countries. Congo was one of them. On this particular occasion, her son packed his old books and asked for it to be sent to children in Congo since he could not travel for a visit on his own without anyone even asking to do this! As a Nigerian African, this touched me. Our children can bear the fruit of the spirit like Kindness when we actively pray for it to grow and then create an enabling environment for this trait to thrive. By sharing stories about the children in Congo, the fruit of kindness grew on its own.
She also shared how on one occasion, she tried to talk to her kids to be well behaved at a Vacation Bible camp but that was the very day the boys did their “best” loool (if you get what I mean). This was to drive home the fact that, only God can truly work in the heart of these children. We will do all the talking and disciplining but God is the one that does the complete work in their hearts. We need to pray fervently for God to take over the hearts of our children. He is the one that does the heart work. We just create the right atmosphere with our prayers.

As usual, I enjoyed reading it. I’m sure people in the bus/train would have been wondering why I was laughing when I was reading the book. As a boy mom, I could relate with the hilarious stories laced with very important lessons.
We hope you enjoy the reading the Book when you get a copy! Feel free to tag us or share your thoughts with us.

We are on a mission to help Christian African Parents in Diaspora find relatable, Christian colourful & exciting resources on their parenting journey. We do not make money from the Book Reviews posted here. Please follow us on @inlushmeadowskids for more resources for kid and moms.
One of the major goals of this page is to share as many resources as possible with New Christian Mamas looking for resources on their parenting journey. When I became a Mom, I didn’t see so many of those books around me in my current location (Germany) primarily because of the language barrier so I made up my mind to fill this gap. If you know any Christian Mama who speaks only English right now, do not hesitate to share this page with them.
